Art Blog

This is just a mini-post to let my friends know that I recently created a new art blog.  Since I moved out to Indiana I have gotten back into Printmaking and have had a blast doing it so I thought I would try to get more serious and document everything online.  This will make things easier when it comes to commissions as well as marketing.

Also please check out my brand new Etsy account.  There isn't much yet, also a work in progress.  Of course, as my friends know, if you ever want something I made or have a commission feel free to contact me directly.  I am actually hoping to figure out a system for custom orders once I have everything else set.

exploring: long's bakery

After I moved to Indianapolis there was one place everyone told me I had to visit: Long's Bakery.  Everyone praised their donuts and any list for "Best Bakery" had Long's in the #1 spot.

This morning I went out to pick up some art supplies and on my way I happened to pass it.  On my way back I decided to stop.  The location was small but you could smell the warm, sweet, smell of baked goods while standing in the parking lot.

This past week several family members have sent us some festive candies for the Easter holiday.  Feeling the urge to bake, but not really wanting to just add more to the "need to eat" pile, I decided to try and use some of the candy in a cookie.  M&M cookies have always been a favorite of mine, and I now had a large bag to use so that one seemed perfect.

Today I ventured out for a second attempt at going to the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  As I mentioned in my previous post my first attempt wasn't too successful, luckily everything went a lot smoother this time around.

I had liked the museum's page on Facebook to keep up with events and classes and a recent one that came up was a special showing of More Than Honey, a documentary about the issues bee populations are facing around the world.  Since I am an avid lover of bees I thought this would be interesting and, instead of just going for the showing, I chose to make a whole day of it.

exploring: failed attempts + an antique mall

A few days ago I wrote a list of places I hope to visit now that I live in this area of the country.  Most of the locations are shops or museums in the Indianapolis area, but others are close by cities or even local events.

project list: mini-garden part 1

Today I finally started on my "Mini-Garden" project.  I was never really much of a gardener but I knew it would be a great start to dressing up our, otherwise sad, balcony.  Eventually Josh and I want to have seating and maybe even a bar out here but for now little plants will at least add a feeling of Spring.

Because I have such little experience with this matter I turned to friends for advice.  While I originally intended to plant flowers or succulents everyone suggested various foods (Swiss Chard being the most highly requested) so I changed my plan slightly.  When I went out to pick up supplies my new idea was to get chard, one or two herbs, and fill the extra space with flowers.  Once I was actually in the store my plans changed again.  I got the chard and herbs as planned, but dropped the flowers idea and picked up some strawberry bulbs instead.  The idea of picking fresh strawberries seemed so appealing to me.  I know I won't be able to pick massive amounts, having such a limited space, but I am excited none the less.

Back at the apartment I preceded to make a huge mess while I planted seed and transferred the herbs into their own pots.  In one pot I put the sweet Basil in the other, Sweet Mint.  While I liked the idea of having a wide variety of herbs to cook with the truth is I am still fairly new with cooking and wouldn't even know when to use most of them.  Basil and Mint are ones I love and will use frequently.

I want to do more to make the whole arrangement look a little more interesting: decorating the pots, finding an interesting set of shelves or table to display everything, and just general interesting pieces.  I will post more photos as I develop everything.

haul: sweaters + stamps

Yesterday I ventured to the Fashion Mall at the Crossing, the mall located a bit North of where I am.  My mission was to find a few more pieces which would be versatile as both casual as well as work appropriate clothing.  Pretty much anything a bit more adult than the sweatshirts I have been wearing a lot lately. I ended up getting a lot more than I planned on, however I stayed way below my budget so I feel pretty good about it.  Even discovered a new store I am sure I will visit plenty in the future.
